Do You Read Me?:
Our Book Club Community

In the “Do You Read Me?” (DYRM) Book Club we read about Black intersectional experiences as told by Black authors. Our community space centers joy, imagination, and connection while being grounded in ethical consumerism. Our book selections highlight the expansiveness of Blackness, while offering rest from having to educate others on the existence of the racial trauma, misogyny, -isms, and -phobias we navigate daily.

If you’re looking for a space to “be” and find pleasure in reading fiction… Come play with us!

Community Expectations

Centering Black Experiences

Our focus is on celebrating Black stories and amplifying Black authors. We invite you to engage thoughtfully with the diverse narratives presented, fostering a space where Black voices are heard and cherished.

Prioritizing Joy and Harm Reduction

Our community is built on the pillars of joy, community, and harm reduction. We can not always control outcome, but we aim to reduce harm and create joy when possible.  Please engage with fellow members respectfully, fostering an atmosphere where diverse perspectives are celebrated, and everyone feels valued.

Read & Shop Ethically

We encourage members to support independent bookshops and libraries whenever possible. By doing so, we contribute to the sustainability of these vital literary spaces and promote access to diverse stories for everyone.

No Tolerance for Hate Speech or Discrimination

We have a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech, discrimination, or any form of harmful behavior. This zero tolerance policy includes official book club events and Kindred Bookshop official virtual community spaces.  Any violation of this principle will be addressed promptly, including suspension or permanent bans from book club.

Inclusive & Respectful Discussions

Embrace the diversity of thoughts within our community. While discussions may vary, let's approach conversations with openness and respect for different viewpoints.

Feedback and Suggestions for Improvement

We encourage active participation in our events and discussions. Every suggestion may not be implemented, but we welcome ways to improve the space however possible. If you have suggestions or ideas for enhancing our community, feel free to share them with the group or reach out to the organizers or Bookshop staff.
