About the event

Have you ever wondered what it was like to eat carrot cake with Toni Morrison? Maybe you’ve dreamed of trading secrets for the perfect banana pudding with Maya Angelou. Perhaps you’ve schemed about what you might bring for the dessert table at the weekend gatherings of The Sisterhood at June Jordan’s Brooklyn apartment. Wonder no more-join us for And Still I Rise, a delicious public history activation centered on Black women’s histories, legacies, and culinary confections. Through cakes, candies, and other sweet treats, we’ll activate Black women’s histories, highlighting their impact across our collective story.

Here’s how it works: At the event, we’ll gather with our desserts inspired  by a Black woman writer or literary character. (Not a baker? You can still be down-we love Patti Pies too!) Each participant will be able to sample the desserts brought by another participant, facilitating connection and conversation about our creations, the women…
